ROYAL COMMISSION ON EDUCATION.
Agreeably to a promise made by the Ministry during the session, the Government have resolved on issuing a Royal Commission to inquire into the condition of collegiate or higher and secondary education, and the relation of both to the common school education of the colony. The names of the gentlemen who are to form this commission are as follows :— Messrs J. A.ToIe,M.H.R. ; G.M. O'Rorke, M.H.R-; Rev. Pr. Wallis, M.H.E. ; Hon. Mr Gisborne, M.H.R. ; Rev. J. W. Habens, Inspector-General of Education ; Dr. Hector ; Professors Cook and Brown, of Canterbury College ; Professors Shand and Sale, of Otago University ; Dr. Macdonald, Rector Dunedin High School ; Mr W. H. Cutten, M.H.R.; Professor Ulrich, Otngo University. The selection is a judicious and a wide one, embracing as it does the names of men of various views, but all of whom have expressed much intere?t in the question of education.
