CRICKET
N.Z. TEAM IN ENGLAND. BATTING AVERAGES. The following are the batting averages of the New Zealand cricketers, now in England, up to and including the match with the Minor Counties: —
A batsman who takes longer than two minutes to get to the batting crease after the fall of a wicket can be declared out if the opposing captain appeals against him. That decision has been embodied in an amendment to the grade laws by delegates to the New South Wales Cricket Association. Formerly the umpires had power to end the match and award the game to the appealing side if a batsman exceeded two minutes in reaching the wickets. Opposing captains were averse to appealing under these conditions, but the alteration makes it easier for them.
