FIJI PROSPEROUS

PRUDENT FINANCE. AUCKLAND, Monday. Fiji’s gold output next year will probably be wortli £750,000, according to Sir Henry Scott, K.C., a member of the Fijian Legislative Council, who arrived at Auckland by the Niagara from Sydney on his way back to Suva after acting as the colony’s senior representative at the Coronation celebrations. The purchase of new and modern machinery to deal with the production of gold had and would continue to have a beneficial effect upon mining and increased production could be expected. Fiji was in h flourishing condition. The Administration had very wisely relied upon a prudent financial policy and excellent strides were being made. New Government buildings were being erected at a cost of between £60,000 and £70,000, and a road estimated to cost about £400,000 was proposed for construction right round the island.— (P.A.)
