CRASH INTO GULLY

MOTOR CAR ACCIDENT. TWO MEN INJURED. WELLINGTON, Monday. A narrow escape from death was experienced by. two men i&en their car went over a 100-foot the Korokoro Hill on Saturday night and crashed. into a gully. The driver of the car was Alexander Mills, a labourer .employed by the Public Works Depart*,, ment, and his passenger was Edward j Holmes, a coal merchant. Both men be-/ long to Korokoro. The accident happened about 5.15 p.m. H. Webster, of Korokoro, who was driving behind Mills’s car, saw it disappear over a slope which ran down to the gully at an angle of about 45 degrees. He investigated the condition of the men and then went to Korokoro for help. The police arrived, and with the help of local residents the men were extracted from the overturned car and sent in the ambulance to the hospital.

Holmes received a severe cut on one leg, and after treatment was able to return home.

Mills had both legs broken, and although his condition is serious, he w.aa described to-day as 1 eing a little better. The car, a two-seater, was badly damaged. —(P.A.) Mf
