SCHOOLS DIAMOND JUBILEE
A NOTABLE RECORD
MASTERTON’S EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT. AMALGAMATION OF POST-PRIMARY ESTABLISHMENTS. Masterton has made great strides in educational development since the establishment of its first State school sixty years .ago. Including Solway College, which draws its pupils from far afield as well as from Masterton and other parts of the Wairarapa, and Whatman School, which is separated from the town only by the width of a boundary road, Masterton has to-day twelve primary and post-primary schools, State, private and denominational. A noteworthy event of the present year is the beginning lately made upon the erection of additional buildings on the Wairarapa High School grounds to accommodate the combined school to be established by the amalgamation of the Masterton Technical School and the High School. With additional classrooms, an assembly hall, workshop and home science blocks added to the present High School buildings, the new school will be splendidly accommodated. During the period of sixty years culminating in the present diamond jubilee celebration, many citizens of Masterton have worked well and zealously for the advancement of education an advancement that has been facilitated greatly by the liberal financial assistance granted to the schools throughout the years by the Trust Lands Trust. Masterton has a creditable past and should have a great future where, the education of youth is concerned.
