f lITTLE PROGRESS Little progress was made on legislation in the House of Representatives yesterday. The greater part of the forenoon was given to discussion of reports from select committees. The Leader of the Opposition, Mr M. J. Savage, gave notice to move next sitting day, that in view of the inadequate provision made for relief workers, the House should express the opinion until productive work at standard rates of pay could be made available for every able-bodied worker, an immediate increase of 10s a week should be granted, with further sympathetic allowance for each dependant. A Bill to amend the education law in several directions was introduced and read a first time. In the afternoon tho House went into committee on the Rural Mortgagors Jrinal Adjustment Bill, but no progress Mas made. A new point was raised by A. M. Samuel (Ind., Thames), who suggested that, in assessing the basic value of returned soldiers’ farms, the physical condition of the farmer should be taken into consideration. He said he understood that the Returned Soldiers'’ Association would endeavour to secure some safeguard for soldier settlejrs who might be cracking up as a resunr of war service. The short title had*not been passed when the adjournment was taken at 5.30 until Tuesday afternoon. MORTGAGE BILL.
