RYAN BEATS TARIS

NEW SOUTH WALES TITLE,

SYDNEY, Saturday

Swimming a great race, Noel Evan retained the 440 yards State title, beating the French champion, Jean Taris, by four-fifths of a second. Byan’s time was 5 3-5 seconds slower than the Australian record.

The Frenchman, Emile Poussard, gave a fine exhibition in winning the international springboard diving championship. Results are:—

440yds. State Championship. —Ryan, 1; Taris, 2; Charlton, 3. Six started. Taris was slowest to enter the water, but joined Byan at 25 yards. The Frenchman then led until the commencement of the final lap, when Byan went to the front, winning by three feet. Charlton was 15 yards away. Time, 5.1.

Diving.—Poussard, 109. 8 points, 1; 11. Tickle. 10C.61, 2; A. O’Connor, 85.22, 3.
