HUNTER INJURED

BY WOUNDED LION,

(Received Monday, 9.5 a.m.)

CAPETOWN, Sunday,

Compassion for a wounded lion imperilled the life of Gerald Tenison, a relative of the Earl of Kingston. Tenison was with his wife and another hunter named Riley and when the party was traversing flats in Ngamiland a zebra was shot for bait. On the following day they fired at a splendid specimen of a lion, only wounding it in the foot. Tenison insisted upon following the spoor for twelve miles in high grass. Suddenly the lion charged and Tenison rammed his rifle in its mouth. The lion crunched the stock which then snapped off at Tenison’[♦ hand. When the lion downed Tenison Riley shot the animal dead. Tho bushmen cleared out.

Tenison’s wife witnessed the incident.

Tenison was carried to Mannis and is recovering.
