HAWKE’S BAY SHOW
ON 21st MARCH. The Hawke’s Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society’s Autumn Show will be held on Thursday, 21st March. The fruit, vegetable, grain and horticultural sections, which have, established the present high reputation of this Show as one of the finest exhibitions of fruit, vegetables, farm produce, etc., in the Dominion, and for which the classification is now of a most complete character, there are now so many other divisions of the Show which make a strong appeal to exhibitors and the public. The live stock classes have been further added to, classes being provided for bull calf and heifer c-alf of each of the three dairy breeds. Milking breeds, Milking Shorthorns, Friesians and Jerseys, and also novice classes for Jersey heifer calf and Jersey bull calf. There are five other classes for Jerseys and one for grade heifer calf. There are also two classes for grade heifer calf and crossbred heifer calf respectively in the Calf Club’s competition open, to schools in the Hawke’s Bay Education district. The fat sheep and lamb classes have also been added to while there are also three classes for bacon pigs and porker pigs. _ There is a very comprehensive classification in the preserves section, honey section, and bread, scones and cakes section. It should be noticed too th. there are three novice classes in the lfoney section and nine novice classes and four children’s classes (under . 17 years) in the bread and scones section. The poultry classes both for fancy and utility provide adequate recognition for all leading breeds, and as the classes are for young birds only, breeders should not miss the opportunity of comparing their stock with those of other breeders before the poultry show season commences in earnest.
The horse competitions number six classes, children’s pony trotting, pony leaping, ladies’ leaping, open leaping, maiden hunters" and pony leaping (boy or girl riders). Three chopping and one sawing event have also been added to the programme, the chopping being maiden and open standing chops, open underhand chop, while the sawing is a doublehanded event. Good prize money is offered in these events. ' Another big attraction in the way of competitions are the dancing and piping competitions. There are fifteen dancing events, and in addition to the prize money for these there are three points cups (one to be won outrighD and a points gold medal. There are three piping events, laments, marches, strathspeys and reels, for each of which a gold medal and prize money is offered, and a special prize of £4 10s will be allotted to the piper scoring the most points in the three eevnts. There is also a very full classification in the kennel section of the show, for which three cups, besides a number of specials, have b n en allotted. There is a separate schedule for these classes. Entries for all classes close with the secretary, Mr A. M. Retemeyer, Napier, on Thursday, 7th March, 1935.
