METHODIST CHURCH

CONFERENCE AT DUNEDIN. DUNEDIN, Friday. The business sessions of the annual conference of the New Zealand Methodist Church opened in Dunedin this morning, the president, the Rev. J. H. Ha slam, presiding. The following candidates for the ministry were received by the conference for theological training:—ll. G. Harkness, J. Silvester, J. C. A. Williams, W. R. Laws, L. C. Clements. Supernumerarv status was granted to the following ministers:—The Revs. P. N. Knight, H. Ashcroft, T. R. Richards, J. Harris and A. Hopper. The Rev. E. 0. Blamires was granted permission to labour for one year as secretary of the Bible-in-Schools League, and the Rev. E. T. Cox (Mayor of Dunedin) was, at his own request, left for one year without pay on a pastoral charge. The Rev .A. E. W. Silvester was designated for foreign mission work in the Solomon Islands.

Arrangements were made for a conference deputation to wait on the Gov-ernor-General, Lord Bledisloc, on the occasion of his forthcoming visit to Dunedin, to convey to His Excellency the Methodists’ appreciation of his admirable work and utterances while Gov-ernor-General. —(P.A.)
