COSY THEATRE. ‘THE SCOTLAND YARD MYSTERY’ “The-Scotland Yard Mystery,” featuring Sir Gerald Du Maurier, at the Cosy Theatre to-niglit, is described as an unusually gripping detective drama. The story centres round the discovery by the Chief Inspector of Scotland Yard that the Home Office pathologist is a crook, and his attempts to bring him to justice. The pathologist has discovered a serum Avhieli, Avlien injected, produces the appearance of death, and he has used this on several heavily insured people, obtaining large sums of money on their insurance policies. When the Inspector eventually thinks he has his man cornered, he is threatened Avith the death of. his daughter, aa-lioui the crook has kidnapped and injected AA'itli his serum, the secret of the antidote to Avliick lie alone knoAvs. Being handcuffed, he is temporarily released to revive the girl—and thus he makes his getaivay. _ The sensational climax shows the villain finally caught in the terrible trap of his OAvn fiendish invention, Avlien he injects the serum into himself, to escape the police. THE REGENT,

“ONE MORE RIVER.”

That noted actress Diana Wynyard has the leading role in ‘ ‘ One More River,” which comes to the Regent Theatre to-night. The production, which had a sensational run of three weeks in Christchurch, two Aveeks in Auckland and two Aveeks in Dunedin, is based on the novel written by the late John GalsAvortliy as the last section of his Forsyte Saga. The story is that of a tragic marriage and a woman fleeing from her sadistic husband in Ceylon and being unjustly suspected .on account of her subsequent friendship Avith a young man whom she meets on shipboard. The climax of the screen play brings to a most surprising conclusion a story Avliich at all times is full of suspense and interest. Diana Wynyard displays her beauty and talent to excellent advantage as the abused Avife, and fine performances are given by Frank Lawton and Colin Clive, Avho play leading roles. The entire cast, in fact, is excellent, including such talented players as Mrs Patrick Campbell, Reginald Denny, Jane Wyatt, Henry Stephenson, Lionel Atwill, Alan Mowbray and many others. The entire story is told against a background of English life, and constitutes a highly interesting picture of life, in London and its environs. The direction of James Whale is exceptional, and assists A’astly in making “One More River” a picture of decided importance —one of the outstanding screen productions of the entire season.
