FOUND DEAD

A SHOOTING FATALITY. WANGANUI, Friday. George Barnum Tremaine, aged 17, was found dead in a lonely gully in the Ngutuwera district, near Wanganui, today, the cause of death being a bullet wound in the stomach. The deceased, who was a farm hand employed on Mr S. Brewer’s Waikare property, went pig-shooting with a rifle on Thursday afternoon. He was not missed until early yesterday morning, and a search resulted in the discovery of his body a mile from the homestead. When found the deceased’s dogs were keeping watch, and there was a Polled Angus bull in the vicinity. The theory is that Tremaine may have lost his footing, with the result that the rifle was discharged.—(P.A.)
