PONATAHI SPORTS
NEXT SATURDAY. For the annual sports at Carterton on Saturday next it is anticipated that large entries •will be received for all horse and pony competitions and that all the best of Wairarapa horsemen will be competing. The wood-chopping and sawing competitions have drawn big entries in every class, including Oliver, one of New Zealand’s best axemen, and IT. Watt, a top-notcher from Australia. Other first class woodsmen are competing. Amateur athletes have responded freely with entries for the running events and the committee hope that their venture in including these items on the programme will be well supported by athletic supporters and will lead to a revival of amateur athletics in the district.
Dancing events still hold popular favour and this section of the progress is sure to be better than ever.
The Baby Show (the only event of its kind in the district) always draws good entries and creates considerable interest among the ladies.
