BOROUGH COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Borough Council was held last evening, there being present the Mayor (Mr T. Jordan), and Crs. W. Judd, W. Kemp, J. Barr, A. Low, W. White, R. Russell, W. L. Free, E. R. Rogers, T. Beetliam.

Tlie Masterton Technical School was granted the use of the Park Oval on Bth March for the annual sports meeting. The Masterton County Council wrote suggesting that in connection with the timber and bunting used at the recent welcome of Prince Henry, that the Borough Council keep the bunting and the County Council take the timber. The suggestion was agreed to. The Mayor, Crs. Judd and Bcetham were appointed delegates to a conference with the Masterton County Council in regard to renewing the Ruamahanga River bridge. In connection with the Alpass Reference Library bequest, the chaii-man of the Library Committee (Or. W. L. Free) stated that a first choice of reference books had been made. The engineer had submitted an estimate, £lO los, of the cost of making alterations to the book case in the reference library to make it suitable for housing the Alpass Reference Library. The sub-committee, previously appointed, was authorised to purchase the list of books submitted and to have the necessary alterations to the book-case put in hand. The matter of purchasing additional reference books was left to the sub-committee with power to act.
