NOTABLE PERFORMANCES. AUCKLAND, Saturday. The outstanding feature of the. amateur athletic meeting at the Domain on Saturday afternoon when members of the British team and two Finns took part in the handicap events, was the performance of Perasalo in clearing 6ft. Sin. in the high jump handicap. This created a new Dominion record, the previous best being Cft. 4 5-7 in., cleared by Metcalfe (Australia) at the Domain in March last year. Although unplaced in the discus throw Sippala did 132 ft. 9 Jin., against the winner’s distance, 138 ft. 6sin., in which is included 35ft. handicap. Conceding a handicap of 80ft.the Finn threw the javelin 218 ft. BJin., whereas the winner did 220 ft. 4Jin., with a handicap of 80ft. Cooper won the three miles very easily but as the mile event followed within an hour he did not oppose the Englishman, Craske, who ran second in the good time of 4min 31 2-ssees, the winner being on 80 yards. Rampling ran third in a heat of the 220 yards and in the quarter mile just failed to concede the winner 25 yards. Powell, one of the English team, registered a splendid performance in winning the half-mile handicap from scratch in 2min l-ssecs., after conceding starts up to 38 yards. Murdoch, the remaining member of the visiting combination, disappointed as a sprinter, running unplaced in the heat of the 100 yards handicap and also unplaced in the final of the 220 yards. After running second in the heat in both sprints Murdoch was well beaten by Elliott, a former New Zealand champion.— (P.A.)
