AMUSEMENTS

COSY THEATRE.

“MALA THE MAGNIFICENT.”

The grandeur of the earth’s white mantle of snow at the North Polo is shown in “Mala the Magnificent,” an epic of the Arctic filmed by Col. IV. S. Van Dyke for the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios. This picture is the current attraction at the Cosy. Thousands of miles of ice and snow jwovide a background for the greatest record of a native people ever made on film. One scene shows the “Midnight Sun” streaking a track across the ice for fully two hundred miles with the figure of a native in the foreground dwarfed to a tiny speck. Captain Peter Freuchen’s thrilling story of life and love among the natives in this northernmost point inhabited by mankind has been faithfully and beautifully recorded. Mala, mighty hunter and leader of his tribe, is the centre of a powerful drama in which the wrong done to his Eskimo wife by a white man is vividly revenged. Reserves at Perry’s, ’phone 2496. “Damaged .Lives” is announced as the next attraction starting on Wednesday.

THE REGENT. “WONDER BAR.” Kay Francis and Dolores Del Rio perform the leading feminine roles in the First National picturisation of “Wonder Bar,” now showing at the Regent Theatre. Beaded fabrics lead the group of gala costumes depicted in this picture —Miss Del Rio wearing >two sequin gowns, one gold and one black, while Miss • Francis wears a white beaded gown, showing an extreme low decolletege, with an enveloping cape of black velvet also richly embroidered with beads. “Wonder Bar” is the internationally famous musical drama with an all-star cast, others being A 1 Jolson, Ricardo Cortez, Dick Powell, Hal Le Roy, Guy Kibbee, Hugh Herbert, Louise Fazenda, Fifi d’Orsay and Merna Kennedy. The picture is set amid the gay revelries of a Parisian night club with spectacular musical and dance numbers created and staged by Busby Berkeley in which 300 beautiful girls take part. Music and lyrics are by Harry Warren and A 1 Dubin while Lloyd Bacon directed. Reserves at Perry’s, ’phone 2496.
