HEADED FOR BALBOA
DUKE’S PLANS CHANGED.
SYDNEY, Saturday. H.M.A.S. Australia reports that the tug Ontario, having signalled after dinner on Friday night that she was on the correct bearing, the Australia left the Seth Parker after an exchange of farewell messages. “We are now steaming for Balboa under 13 knots because of the necessity of husbanding fuel,” the message states. Incidentally, the Australia will have been at sea 25 days continuously, which is probably a record for the Navy since the war. In consequence of the time lost it has been decided to omit calls at the Bahamas and Bermuda.
The Duke will be in Jamaica from 6th to 16th March, arriving at Portsmouth on 28th March. It _is hoped that the official calls at Balboa on the morning of 4th March will be completed in time to permit the Duke to fly over Gatun Lock, rejoining the cruiser the same day.
