YOUNG GIRL’S DEATH

COLLAPSE UNDER .ANAESTHETIC. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) HASTINGS, Wednesday. A twelve-year-old girl named Gladys Elizabeth Harper, daughter of Hr and Mrs H. J. Harper, of Nelson Street, Hastings, died under an anaesthetic while being operated upon at the Hastings Memorial Hospital on Friday. At tho inquest it was stated by Dr. 11. M. Wilson that the child had been admitted to hospital on account of failing eyesight and headache. She had been admitted on August 31. Her condition had been investigated by Dr. Mollor and Dr. Scoular, and it had been diagnosed as brain trouble. Two operations were performed, and the child's condition began to improve. She had a change for the worse, however, and another operation was ordered to take place on Friday. During the progress of tho operation she collapsed and died.

Tho jury returned a verdict that all care was taken and all necessary skill was shown by the doctors.
