To-day Mr Benjamin Lyons, of Abel Smith Street, Wellington, celebrated his 93rd birthday.

Mrs D. Baird and Mrs 11. H. Pavitt, of Masterton, will leave on Tuesday by the “Aorangi,” from Auckland, on a visit to Honolulu.

Mr Maurice Smith, of Martinborough, will leave on Thursday for Auckland, . en route for England, where he Intends to remain for six months'.

The Leader of the Opposition (Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates) arrived in Wellington yesterday for the session after an extensive tour of of the North Island. Mr C. C. Dacre, the Auckland cricketer, expects to return to tho Dominion from England in September or early in October. He scored 95 for Gloucester against Middlesex last Friday. There was a large attendance at_tke funeral of the late Mrs Mcri Elers which took place at the Masterton Cemetery yesterday afternoon. Many beautiful wreaths were received, bearing testimony to the respect in which the late Mrs Elers was held by a wide circle of friends.

At the Morison’s' Bush Church Miss Vida E. Roband, .eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs P. L. Roband, of Ponatahi, and formerly of Morison’s Bush, was married to Mr Percy Hammond, fourth son of Mr and Mrs Hammond, of Leeds, England. The bridesmaids were four sisters of tho bride, Misses Edna (chief), Gwen, Dora and Joyce Roband. Mr W. Hammond (brother of the bridegroom) acted as best man and Mr Graham Biclcnell as groomsman.

A wedding of interest to Wairarapa and Auckland people was celebrated at St. Luke’s Church, Greytown, the contracting parties being Miss Olive Ruby Herrick, third daughter of Mrs and the. late Mr L. J. C. Herrick, of Kuratawhiti Street, Greytown, and Mr Stanley Richard Malton, late of Auckland. The bridesmaids were Miss Irene Ellery, Carterton (chief) and Miss Kitty Smith, Martinborough. The bridegroom was attended by Messrs. R. Malton (brother), Cyril Lowe (Wellington) and Albert Warren (Martinborough). At the annual meeting of the Masterton branch of the N.Z. Bible Society yesterday afternoon officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow: President, the Rev. John Davie; vicepresidents, the Ministers of Masterton, Commandant Moore, Mesdamos J. MacRae and E. 0. Blamires; committee, Mesdames S. J. Campbell, Ractliffe, Mawley, S. J. Smith, Weller, J. Perry, A, C. Major, J. Davie, H. Dyson, E. J. Bunny, Malcolm McGregor, Miss Lois McGregor and Mr E. Hale; secretary, Mrs E. J. Brown; treasurer, Mr A. J. Daysh; ladies’ auxiliary, President, Mrs J. Macßae, vice-presidents, Mrs E. 0. Blamires and all lady presidents, secretaries and collectors.

The death occurred in Pahiatua on Sunday of Mr Wm. H. Farrell, a wellknown settler of Konini. The late Mr Farrell, who was aged 42 years, was a son of tho late Mr W. H. Farrell and was born in Pahiatua and educated at’ the local and Makakahi (now Konini) schools. With his brother James (now of Dannevirke) he carried on the farm of his father after the decease of the latter, and subsequently took over the property himself. Last week, the late Mr Farrell took very seriously ill with an attack of pneumonia, and was removed to the Tararua Private Hospital. Deceased was a director of the Konini Dairy Co., a member of the Pahiatua A. and P. Association, the Tararua Club and the Pahiatua Racing Club. He leaves'a wife and two young children to whom much sympathy will be extended.

On Sunday Mr and Mrs N. Kettle celebrated their golden wedding at their residence, Cobden road, Napier. Mr and Mrs Kettle have resided in Napier for over fifty years. Mr Kettle was born in Dunedin and is a son of the late Mr Charles Kettle, who was chief surveyor for the New Zealand 'Company, and Mrs Kettle is a daughter of the late Major von Tempsky, who did much valiant service and died so heroically in the Maori War. Ou June 22, 1880, they were married at St. Mary’s Church, Waipukurau, by the Rev. S. Williams. Owing to Mrs Kettle’s state of health only near relatives were present at Sunday night’s celebration. Mr and Mrs Kettle were the recipients of a gold loving cup with the dates 1880—1900 inscribed, from near relatives. Many other inesents and telegrams from old friends were received. At the conclusion of the golf at Waiohiki on Saturday afternoon, the members of the Napier Golf Club assembled in the club house to offer their congratultaions to Mr Kettle, and presented him with a gold-mounted pen and pencil. On Wednesday, June 18, Myra Kathleen Olsen, daughter of Mrs G. Hallberg, Mauriceville North, was married to Walter Francis Bray, third son of Mr and Mrs Bray of Hastwells, in the Methodist Church, at Mauriceville North, by the Rev. Baillie. The bride wore a beautiful sleeveless frock of pink orepe-de-cliine with shoes and stockings to tone. She also wore the usual orthodox veil and orange blossoms, and carried a lovely shower bouquet. Miss Sigvertsen, cousin of the bride, and Miss Bray, sister of the bridegroom, attended the bride as bridesmaids, the former wearing a biscuit coloured crepe-de-chine dress, and the latter blue, crepe-de-ehine. They wore pale pink felt hats and carried pretty bouquets. The bridegroom was attended by Mr T. McKenzie as best man, and Mr N. Hood as groomsman. After the ceremony Mr and Mrs Halberg entertained the guests at a dainty wedding breakfast at the Hastwells Hall. Later Mr and Mrs Bray left bycar en route to Auckland where the honeymoon is being spent. On their return they will take up their residence in Mauriceville.
