PLUNKET SHIELD. RETAINED BY WELLINGTON. (By Telegfaph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. By defying the Auckland bowling for close upon eight hours, Wellington won the Plunket Shield to-day, and at - the drawing of stumps had lost eight wickets for 380 runs. The day' was saved for tile home team by a wonderful lighting innings for 122 by' the captain, T. C. Lowr.v, who remained at the wickets for 26S minutes. With McLeod, Lowry put on 112 for the fifth wicket, and with McGirr ho added 132 for the sixth wicket. The Aucklanders strove hard all day for victory, and might have gained the Shield had their work in the air been better. Lowry was dropped behind the wdekets when 31, and McGirr was dropped in the twenties. By preventing Auckland getting an outright win, Wellington took the Shield by 18 points to Auckland’s 16.
