WOOL MARKET.
TIMARU SALE. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) T IMARU, ’Thursday. The first wool sale of the season for South Canterbury opened here to-night before the largest bench of buyers which lias attended at a Timaru wool sale, all the ivool-eonsuming countries of the world, including Russia, being represented. Ten thousand bales were offered. Nearly all were sold under very keen competition. Though lighter in condition than usual owing to the superabundance of rain, the wool was in good condition and opened up attractively. Buyers considered the sale equal to the Christchurch sale, though it is generally considered that South. Canterbury wools hardly reach the quality of those grown in North Canterbury. Top price of the sale, 25fd, was paid for merino. The best price for lialfbred was 243 d. The following is the range of prices: Merino —Extra super to 253 d, super 23d to 24-id, average 21d to 22d, Fine halfbred: Extra super, 24d to 242 d, super 221 d to 24d, average 20d to 22d, inferior lSd to 20d. Coarse half-bred: — Extra super HUd to 203 d, super lSd to 19:1 d, average 10id to 173 d, inferior 15d to 18d. Fine crossbred: Super RSd to 20d, average 15d to 17d, inferior 13d to 13d. Medium crossbred: Super 15d to 153 d, average 14d to 143 d, inferior 12d to 133 d. Coarse crossbred:— Super 121 d to 14d, average lid to 121(1. Bellies and pieces: Merino, good to super lSd, medium 16d to lSd. Halfbred: Good to super 19d to 21 Id, low to medium 15d to LSd. Crossbred: Good to super 13d to 153 d, low to medium 12d to 13d.
