The match was played in line weather on a good wicket. New South Wales opened'badly, losing three wick-' ets for 37, but Macartney stopped the rot, and in partnership with Andrews scored Thus quickly. Macartney gave a polished display of all manner of shots on both sides of the wicket. Shortly after he was dismissed Andrews went, after playing a valuable innings. The others of the side were unable iong to survive the exceptionally brilliant Queensland bowling. The fielding also was very keen. VICTORIA v. SOUTH AUSTRALIA. ADELAIDE, Tuesday. Victoria, in the second innings in the Sheffield Shield match, scored 430 (Woodfiull 84, Hendry 177, Willis 33). Williams took six wickets for 146. South Australia has lost three Avickets for 93 (Schneider 2S, Richardson 37). The av eat her Avas dull and threatening; the Avicket was good. The" fact that Auckland is.not yepre.'itffttmd (ill tJi’e selection committee to "choose the Ncav Zealand .cricket- teams to four England next year, Avas commented upon at a meeting of' tlio management committee of the Auckland Cricket Association to-night. It was decided to forward a letter of.protest to the New Zealand Council. Speakers alleged it Avas unfair that the North Island should be allotted only one of the three Selectors,- it being contended that the standard of play in the- North Island ayus appreciably higher than in the South Island.
The uiiiininious opinion was that Auckland had not fair treatment in the matter, it was made plain that Auckland did not want to introduce a spirit of parochialism into the matter, and will do all possible towards assisting in taking up shares to finance the tour.
