BONUS TO PLAYERS. DISADVANTAGES OF AMATEURISM. LONDON, Friday. The Daily Express gives prominence to a cable from its Melbourne correspondent, referring to the proposal to give a bonus to the Test cricketers, and quoting the assertion of some Australian cricketers, who have returned “broke,” and compare Hirst, who received £3OOO from a “benefit,” with Ernie Jones, who is stated to be w.orking on the Adelaide wharves, and George Giffen, wlio is holding a minor job in the Post Office. The Express, in a footnote, says: “It is necessary to remember that the Australians come as amateurs, and are accorded all the privileges of the amateur status, whereas Hirst was a professional, and depended on the game, for his livelihood.” ' SOUTH AUSTRALIAN TEAM. TO VISIT NEW ZEALAND. (Received Saturday, 10.40 a.m.) ADELAIDE, This Day. At a special meeting of the Cricket Association it was recommended that the ground and finance committee authorise a trip to New Zealand at the end of the season. A large number of players, including the two Richardsons, Grimmett, Gunn, Scott, Parry, Pritchard and Rundell, have signified their willingness to participate in the tour. It is expected that the team will comprise fourteen players.
