FALSE PRETENCE CHARGES. PEARSON BEFORE THE COURT. / (Received Saturday, 12.20 p.m.) LONDON, Friday. Heskcth Pearson w:as charged with false pretences and was remanded for a week. The publishers’ co'imsel pointed out that Pearson had approached John Dunbar of Oldhams Press, Limited, with whom he was acquainted and suggested the publication of “The Whispering Gallery” as a .serial in the newspapers. Dunbar said it was useless without a name. Subsequently as a result of pressure, Pearson gave the name of Rodd as the author. Dunbar then submitted the manuscript to Lane’s givjng Pearson’s name. Dunbar’s name standing high in .the publishing world, Lane proceeded with the publication.
When the newspaper attack started, Dunbar interviewed Pearson, and later said: “I am sorry I have caused this trouble. ’ ’
Dunbar said: “Did you tell me a lie?”
Pearson replied: “Unfortunately, I did. I have already apologised to Rodd for it.”
