THE ANNUAL SHOW. EXHIBITION OF BIRDS. ; The annual show of the Makteftou 'Poultry Club'i-s being held in the M-uUi- . final Hall to-day and to-morrow. ■ The entries total between 600 and 700, and inelUd& 'ex'MbitbrS from Auckland, Himiltou, Hostings, Wanganui, - -Wellington,',Clifist and. aifteren. parts of .the Wairarapa.. In the Old English class, over one hundred entries ihaive_ been .received, including' championship winners a (Palmerston Northland (Hastings shows. A Baptams (9/), Pigeons (170), and 'Orpingtons (69), in which the en Zealand champ.on ships are being competed for, are amongst the heaviest > classes,, while Rhode Island Reds and White Leghorns are again strong in numbers. Mr W. Hall, of Lcppertoii (fancy poultry), Mr K. Allen, Levin (utility), and Mr L. A. Wadham (pigeons) are acting as judges. • • The secretary (Mr L. J. Coleman) an energetic body of officials have Tone tu a. great deal of trouble in-stag-ing the exhibits to-the best advantage. Special mention must also be made ot the valuable services rendered to the committee by .four Wairarapa High School boys (A. Fear, F. Allan, B. Welch and F. Nicholson), who-assisted with the erection of the pens and the -attaching of prize tickets. Speaking to-a “Daily Tunes” reporter,judge in the Utility Section (Mr J K Allen, ofCLevin) said that the Or■pingtons and Brown Leghorns were a splendid lo,t, beating the Manauatn Show easily. The breeding pens in (Orpingtons were the best lot he had seen for a long time. The White Leghorns included some very good birds, while the Minorcas were just an aver- : age lot. . . Prize cups were won by Mr G. Webster (Wellington) for best, female and male White Leghorn respectively, and Mr L. A. Wadham for best Black Orpington Judging was commenced tins morning. and following are the awards
