Miss Swinn wore -a blue maroeain dress and grey hat, and Miss Larsen flesh-colour-ed crepe de chine and white hat. Each carried bouquets of japoniea daphne. Mr Owen Larsen was best man, and Mr Chas. Whyte, for 23 years-secre-tary of the Wellington Racing Club, died -early last night in the Bowen street hospital, where he had been lying since June 18th. He was .54' years of age. Born at Hollytown, near Glasgow, on September 22nd, 1871, the lat-e Mr Whyte was educated at Merton College, England. In 1889, at the age of eighteen, he arrived in New Zealand, joining the staff of the Colonial Bank in Auckland. During his eight years of service, first ■in the , Colonial. Bank -and later in the Bank of New Zealand, Mr Whyte was transferred to the -South Island, and off resigning his position in the Bank of' New Zealand, he entered business as a stockbroker at Dunedin in 1897. In 1902, upon his appointment, as secretary." of. the ; Wellington' Racing Club, Mr,Whyte took up his residence in Wellington,, For many years he had' been prominent in the business of the city, and at the -time of his death he was 'managing director of the Victoria Laundry Company, a director of the Commercial; v Uniqn Insurance Society, aiid secretary of the Golden Bay' Cement Company. As a young man, Mr Whyte, represented the Auckland, province oh tie football field. He was for many years a prominentgolfer, and was at one time well known South Island cricket circles.
