Australia had not lost her equanimity over the war debt. She had the proud belief that her resources, with additional population, would easily carry the load. Australia, he said, badly wanted immigrants, provided they were her own latli and kin; the natural increase was insufficient, and the Government proposed to initiate an immigration campaign with a few months. British hoardings would be splashed with announceinents for the purpose of getting the overspill of men and women willing to stake their fortunes in a new country. lie realised the gravity of the Eastern situation.
