HEAVY BALE.

DAMAGE IN KING COUNTRY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) TE KUITI, Friday. There was an exceptionally heavy gale last night. All the wires are down north of Otorohanga, and communication with Taranaki is cut somewhere near Awakino. The wind, which was of unuusal severity, blew in a. big plate-glass window and did other damage. The Telegraph Department advises: j —“ Owing to stress of weather, the telegraphic traffic has been, and still is, severely dislocated in both the North and South Islands. North ot Hamilton several poles are reported down, causing at one time a complete cut-off from Auckland. In the South Island poles were also reported down both north and south of Kaikourn.”
