FARMERS' UNION.

GLADSTONE BRANCH. About twenty farmers attended the -meeting of the branch in the Longbush schoolroom last night. Mr A. Ross was elected jo the cljair. The report and balance-sheet was read to the meeting by the secretary, .and after discussion was adopted The chairman complimented the organiser, Mr D. Hebenton, on the success of last year’s work, and urged yqry member to be an ehtbusiastical member for the Union. Messrs K...H. Renall and A. Ross were elected tt> the Wairarapa Execu--tiv-e. Mr Curie (Government Dairy In--structor) addressed the meeting in connection with the erection of a dairy factory in the district. He stated -that the c-ost of buildings and machin---ory "we.re so great at ■ present that it would be advisable to erect a factory for less than 500 cows. In reply to a -question he stated that although in ■the )mst there was about 6d difference per lb butter fat in the “pay. out” "between butter and cheese factories for the coming year he did not think there ''">kwould be any difference. V Two 1 soldier settlers attended the meeting on behalf of the Te Whiti Settlement and stated they would milk about 220 cows next season. jgbfter a lengthy discussion, it was dqHted to appoint a committee to meet the Masterton Dairy Company directors and ascertain more information re -their proposals to erect a factory at ■Gladstone, or cart the cream into Mas- - terton.
