SIR J. G. WARD DEFEATED.

The general election was held yesterday, the first in New Zealand for five years. Sir Joseph Ward was defeated for Awarua. Two other ex-Ministers, Sir James Carroll and the Hon. G. W. "Eussell, and one member of Mr Massey's Cabinet, the Hon. J. B. Hine, also lost their seats.
