There was a big attendance at tho opening of the House of Commons, many being unable to find eea-ts.
The Labourites occupied tho Opposition benches, including the front bencl, •with the Independent Liberals who aro> Privy Councillors. Mossr/j Maclean, Hodge, Clynes, Thornt?. Crooks and Ad-« amson are sitting on the front T&encb. > :
The Hon. J. W. Lowther was it** elected Speaker.
Mr Lowther accepted the appointment, and recalled that he presided over, the House of Commons in the momentous days of the outbreak of the war. He hoped still to be in tho chair Wneift the announcement -w(i3 made that peaC9 had been signed. He was -willing to XQ-" tain the Speakership for two years.
He moved the adjournment of tneHouse until to-morrow, -,vhen the members will be sworn lv. . t
