A serious accident befel Willie Hart, rthe young son of Mr Walter Hart, of Kokotau, yesterday morning. He was •driving in some draught horses, when one of them lashed out and caught him in tho face. He was at onco taken to m private hospital in Carterton. __ death occurred iv Eketahuna on iPlnday of Mr C. Ogg, a resident of some years' standing. Deceased was a bricklayer by trade, and followed this •occupation on coming to the district. Later he went farming, after which he -agayi settled in Eketahuna, A widow a]g[\ family are left to mourn their loss. Masterton centenarian, Mr John OTvlalley, died in the Masterton Hospital yesterday afternoon, after a short illness. Deceased was born in County Kerry, Ireland, in ISI7, and came tc [New Zealand iv 1563. He took up his xcaidenco in Masterton about oO years ago, and engaged iv road and railway ■contract work. Deceased worked as .& naw'y until he was over ninety years ■of age" He was a very strong and ,wiry man, and retained his faculties jight up till tho la-st.

An unfortunate accident happened to Mr P. Miles, the Post Office Telegraph Engineer, stationed at Pahiatua, on Monday. When driving his motor car .-about two miles south of Pahiatua in the direction of Masterton, by some tho steering gear got beyond his «rol, and the car crashed into a teleh pole, and, apparently owing to > defect in the pole, broke it, resulting in severe injuries to Mr Miles' ihead and hands. He was conveyed to Pahiatua, where his injuries were attended to. The damage to the car was •comparatively slight.

•jtfionel Begg, of the New Zealand [Mimical Corps, has died in England of

influenza. He was about to leave for New Zealand to take up the position of

Director of Medical Services in succes-sion—-to Surgeon-General Henderson, ,who shortly returns Home. Dr. Beg-g w*as a well-known Wellington practitioner, and had been on service abroad since the earliest days of the war. The Parish Magazine states that tho Eev. John Walker, M.A., is to be absent from Masterton until February loth.

In spite of the .very inclement weather a most enjoyable time w _ as spent. Songs were rendered by various members of the Cricket Club. Mr S. M. George, chairman of the Club, in a neat speech, traversed 's connection with sport durresidence in the district, a period of about twelve years. Mr Dohnt had resuscitated cricket in Alfredton, had put the club on its feet, and had helped to keep it going. He had been captain for live years, and altogether was a genuine sportsman. Ou behalf of the club he presented the guest with -a handsome cricket bat. Mr Dohnt suitably responded, and the evening concluded with the usual good-byes and good wishes.
