jL Mr Cecil Kebbell, of Alfredton, left week on a trip to England. Mr W. Kemp has been elected president of the Masterton branch of the Protestant Political Association. Constable J. W. M 'Holm, of Carterton, has been promoted sergeant, and. is to be transferred to Wellington,® .-- As was anticipated, Mr A. C. Holms has been returned unopposed to a seat on the Featherston Borough Council. A New York telegram announces the. death of Mr Nat Goodwin, the actor, at the age of 61 years. Deceased made his <debut in New York in 1873. At the annual meeting of the P.P.A. iv Masterton last evening, a presentation was made to Mr A. Williams for his services aB secretary during the past S year.

Mr and Mrs Martin Elgar left Featherston yesterday foi a holiday in the aiorth of Auckland. During their absence they intend spending some time at the Great Barrier Islands.

••Miss Eva W. Hood, who is about to proceed to Australia with the object of furthering her musical studies, has disposed of her teaching connection to Mrs Joseph Black, of Dunedin. Mrs Black is a talented musician, who has had a most successful musical career, having won both a gold medal and a scholar-* ship, and is an associate of Trinity College, London.

Mr and Mrs A. .C. Leggatt left Featherston on Thursday for Plimmerton, where they will reside for a time; Mr Leggatt has relinquished his post as custodian of the Wairarapa Anzac Club, after a successful term of office dating from the inauguration of that- excellent institution. As to the future of the Club, no definite decision has been determined, hence the retirement of the fL/j) custodian from the scene of his recent .activities.

The late Mr A. McKain was accorded a. military funeral yesterday afternoon. The cortege was headed by a firing party of returned soldiers in khaki, and the ■Silver and Central Bands. The coffin was enclosed in the Union Jack, and a istage number of tloral wreaths covered hearse. The pall-bearers were Lieutenants Williams and R. Lee, SergeantMa jor J. McLeavy, Corporal A. E. Prentice, Private D. Mcintosh, and Sapper H. Moore. The service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. J. Walker.
