DISTRICT NEWS.
WHAKATAKI.
[From Our Own Correspondent.]
The weather here at present is just awful. We have had only one really fine day since the snowstorm over a week ago. On Saturday morning it was lovely and fine, but in the afternoon itrained again. The third match for the Cup was played at Whakataki last Saturday. Both teams played short-handed, Tenui having 13 men and Mataikona 14. Unfortunately for the local team, one of their best players, Graham, could not play. The ground was very unfavourable for a good display of football, and the play resembled a mud scramble more than a football match. Mataikona, whose colours are white, were more black than anything else when leaving the field. The Tenui boys had the best of the game right through, and. scored six points during the first half. Nettheir try was converted. In the second half the local team livened up, and McIsaacs made a fine run from more than
half-way down the field with the ball at his toe, and then dived over the line. Towards the end of the game Mataikona kept the ball almost on the Tenui line, and made several attempts to equalise
1 the score, but each failed, and Tenui i left the field victorious by three points.
The Tenui players who scored were Plank and Schofield.
