PLUNKET SOCIETY.
MONTHLY MEETING
The Committee of the local branch of the Plunket Society met iv the Caledonian Hall on Wednesday afternoon. There wero present, —Mesdames T. F. Watson (President),. Archer, C. A. Cameron, V. Donald, D. Grant, Jordan, Low, Win. McKenzie, Wm. Perry, Spain, Sykes and Chonnells.
Nurse Hancock reported that owing to tho stormy weather of last month only SO visits had been paid by mothers to the ollice. Many babies' have had severe colds, and the Nurse has paid 113 visits to homes. Numerous subscriptions were acknowledged, also parcels of clothing from Mrs Cameron and Mrs Grant. Nurse Hancock also mentioned tho kind help always" received from the Matron of the Hostel at Featherston Camp, whero many wives, and babies of soldiers in training are advised fortnightly by the Plunket Nurse. The Society's, book on "Natural Feeding-" is in great demand.
The Central Council, Duncdin, has received a letter from the Children -'a Welfare Association, Melbourne, inviting a delegate from tho Royal N.Z. Society to attend an Inter-State Child Welfare Conference in Melbourne, to commence on November 18th next. The Council has also received a letter from Lieut.-Colonel 11. Austen Smith, of the Indian Medical Service, and surgeon to the Viceroy of India, asking for books and pamphlets in connection with the work of the Society with a view to formulating' schemes for the reduction of the excessive infant mortality iv India.
