LESSONS OF A DECADE.

The Board of Trade statistics, tupplomented by trade union returns, show that the loss of wages in ten organised industries by stoppages due to trade disputes of all kinds totalled in a decade £17,413,188. The net gain in wages, resulting from disputes, w*-? £2,----714,340, leaving a loss of £14,098,8 IS, but the workers as a whole obtained in the decade an increase of £15,000,000, chiefly through the machinery of conciliation and working agreement,?. Of every hundred strikes and lock- j outs in the decade, the employers won fifty, and the workers twenty-five, while v twenty-five were compromised.
