AUCKLAND EXHIBITION.
Those in search of entirely neAV things at tho Auckland Exhibition can have their search rewarded by seeing quite a number of things such as havo never been seen in public in New Zeal and before. The Hall of Industries, where are located most of the general trade exhibits, contains in the gross a large number of novelties of more or less importance, and some of quite outstanding interest. There arc now perhaps several thousand people Avho have a much better understanding of the extent, general "lie"'and structure of the great Panama canal, through having seen the excellent relief model of that great engineering Avork, shown iv one of the shipping company's stalls. Comparatively feAV people have ever before had tho opportunity of seeing a wireless plant in operation. The automatic telephone, which is noAV making its way into New Zealand, having been partly introduced into Wellington and Auckland, is exhibited very fully, and demonstrated in operation, in both the Strowger and the Central Electric systems, along Avith a host of other telegraphic and telephone apparatus. In the engineering section, Avhich is very large and unusually interesting, not only are the latest developments of the motor-car demonstrated, but there is a particularly attractive exhibit in the shape of several 12 and 13.5 inch armour piercing shells. These have, Avith one exception, been fired through a 12----inch plate of Krupp armour, and emerged from the ordeal Avith an astonishingly small amount of damage. Some of them, in fact, are hardly scored at all. There is a particularly handsome model of H.M.S. Hercules, lent by the Admiralty, and on object of constant interest and admiration Among the sideshows there is a great A-ariety of entertainment, some of the shows being quite hcav to this young, and in this respect, hitherto somewhat sedate land. The Avhole exhibition is very gaily dressed up, especially at night, and has had the effect of metamorphosing the temper of the city to a considerable extent. The presence of a small tOAvnship decorated Avith a vast prodigality of electric lights, and filled Avith as many amusements as a minor Coney Island has brought about a most happy disposition AA'hich seems to find its best satisfaction in an evening at the only entertainment of which people seem to talk. The exhibition has so far had a most successful run, and the town is greatly patronised by southern visitors, Avho are taking full advantage of the continuance of excursion faros. .Judging by present prospects there is nothing to suggest that the Exhibition Avill not be able to run a brilliant course till after Easter.
