DESPERATE EIGHT.

- jITWO CHINESE SAILORS INJURED

ONE MAN IN HOSPITAL

What appears to have been the culminating point, of a long-standing feud between two Chinamen took place on the collier Harflete, at Wellington yesterday, says tho N.Z. Times. The vessel, which is British-owned, and carries a Chinese crew, arrived coal-laden from Newcastle a few days ago. She is at fc present discharging her cargo at the JpMiramar wharf. Two of the sailors, Ho To and Ah Fou, between whom ill-feeling has existed for some time —mainly on account -of tho fact that one is a Cantonese and the other hails from another district of the Flowery Land —commenced an argipnt on the deck about midday. OrHrman seized a shovel, the other picked up an iron bar, and a fierce fight began. Hoping to separate them, the second officer rushed between the combatants, and with a "Nelson" hold floored one of the Chinamen. However, the sailor was quickly on his feet, and again commenced hostilities. More Ehvropcan officers came along, and at this Ah Fou rushed ashore. He was seen by Constable j Price, of Kilbirnie, who, noticing that f the man was bleeding from a cut on the head, had him conveyed to tb>2 hospital, where he lies at present. The man is suffering from ••» 3evere cut on the forehead, and the symptoms point to internal injuries. His condition is considered serious. No change in it has been reported. Constable Price and Detective Bailey afterwards visited the steamer to investigate tho affair. The other Chinaman, Ho To. upon whose arm a_ severe cut had' been indicted received tho attention of Dr Do Latour, of Kilbirnie, who inserted a number of st__i?s. fflftfar no arrest has been made by thefJolice.
