PERSONAL MATTERS.
A Loudon cablegram states that Miss Amy Castles was accorded an enthusiastic reception at the ballad concert at Queen's Hall. Mr E. Sidney Jenkins, of Dannevirke, who intends to practise his profession as a veterinary surgeon iv Masterton, is vow staying at the Club Hotel.
Mr J. Nicol, senr., head of the firm of Nicol and Sons, tailors, left Masterton last week on a nine months' trip to the Old Country.
Mr A. H. Herbert, who unsuccessfully contested the Masterton seat at the last general election is to be tendered a social next month by his supporters. There will also be a presentation made to him.
Mr Chas. E. Siigo, editor of the PahiatuaHorald, has resigned his position, in order to pay a visit for the benefit of journalistic experience to England and the Continent. He leaves bvauN.D.L. liner from Sydney on March 20th.
Sir Arthur Guinness is now the "father" of the New Zealand Parliament. He was sworn in on August l!)th, IS'.U, has sat in nine Parliaments and attended #3 sessions.
Mr J. D. Henry, the well-known petroleum expert who journeyed through the Masterton district just prior to visiting London, arrives at Auckland from America to-morrow.
Mr W. C. Kensington, 1.5.0., Under-Secretary for Lands and Immigration, retires" from service at the vnd of February ou superannuation. He has purchased property at Marton, where he intends to spend his days of retirement.
Speaking to a New Zealand Times representative on Saturday, Mr John MeCormack, the Irish tenor, said "I think New Zealand should do something to help Miss Rosina Bnckmaun to get Home. Sydney no doubt will do something, though she i.s a New Zealander. She has a career before her. It would not require very much money. In a little time New Zealand would have cause to be proud of her."
