The effect of the coal strike at New South Wales is beiug felt by the City Couucil here. The Couucil have received a letter from Thomas Brown, Ltd., contractors for supjjlyiug the destructor with Newcastle coal until after the Newcastle miners resume work, aud a further supply of Newcastle coal is lauded, iv terms of the Strikes Clause iv their contract, they ask to bo relieved from performance of their contract uutil a further supply of Newcastle coal comes to baud. It was pointed out that although the Newcastle miues were closed for over six weeks the Couucil had beeu supplied with Newcastle coal at contract rates, as they had a qnautity of Newcastle coal iv stock. This, however, was vow exhausted.
