The Premier repeated his former statement that he would Keep the position clear uutil 30th June uext, wheu tho Houso could decide the matter. Mr Massoy asked if that meant that in the evoufc of the House dacidiug agaiust. tiie position Mr Raeves would ba given three mouths' notice. The Premier said six months' uotice was required. He would leave tho whole questiou opau for reviow by the House before 30th Juue uext. Mr Massoy : That is the lirst straightforward aud unqualified statemeut we've had. This was deui.d by a number of Governmeut supporters, who said it had beeu several tunas plainly stated during the debate. Mr Massey declared that not a single member ou his side uf tho House had known that tha item was to be reintroduced in the Supplementary Estimates. The Premier said it was well kuown to the majority of the House that this vote would be placed on the Supplementary Estimates. Mr Massey theu moved that the item of £-100 be reduced by £1 as au indication that there will be no further commitments uutil after 30th Juue next. The motiou was lost by 38 votes to ■21.
