FOR NEXT WOOL SALE.
WELLINGTON'S OFFERING
AROUND THE STORES
The January wool sales open at the Wellington Town Hall on Monday moruiug uext. The offering is expected to be over tweuty-two thousand bales. Tbe wool came iv freely up to Christmas Eve, wheu the catalogues for the Jauuary sales were closed down. All the biokers' stores are full, aud iv some cases storage has had to be obtained outside. The wool is stored all over Welliugtou, from Thorudon-quay to Te Aro, and buyers will have all their work cut out for them iv order to get their valuations completed iv readiness for the sales. Strictly speaking, buyers start valuing ou Friday, but some will uo doubt be fouud in the stores to-morrow. The followiug figures, subject to alteration, will couvey a reasonably accurate idea of individual offeriugs:— Brokers. Bales. Dalgety and Co. 8500 Leviu aud Co. 4400 Loau aud Mercantile 8500 Murray, Roberts 3100 Abraham aud Williams 2800 Total , 22,300 A lot of wool has been shut out of the sales owiug to tardy delivery, but it will bo included in the February offering. There were to-day 135 trucks of wool at the railway yards awaiting clearance by the Harbour Board. These are the holiday accumulatious, aud are expected|jto be cleared by to-morrow. The wool is coming forward much heavier iv the grease thau that sent iv for the December sales. Growers have put some fairly stiff reserves upon the wool, and iv some instances up to Id to l}_d per lb more than the brokers to whom such clips have been consigned believe that they will be able to obtain. The wool has come iv from Tarauaki, Mauawatu, Wairarapa, Nelson, Blenheim, aud eveu from Auckland. Prices are expected to be on a parity with those of the December sales, but the couditiou of the wool aud the fact that there is a considerable quantity of bush-stained and some "seedy" wool sent in will have to be takeu into accouut. The total quantity of wool offered iv Welliugtou duriug last selliug season amounted to 46,413 bales, of which 41,952 were sold; the year before the total WeJliugton offering was 20,200 bales. The November aud December with the Jauuary offeriugs this seasou will reach a total of 45,000 for the seasou, so far as it has gone.—Post.
