The Masterton Methodist Church choir will not meet again for practice till Ttmrsday 27th January.

The secretary of tho Solway Home desires to express his thanks for a box of books sent to the inmates by Mr J. Prentice, and which were taken to the Home by Messrs Fly and Young free of charge.

Rlfiemau R. J. King, who annexed the championship belt at the recent North Island Championship Rifle Meeting at Wanganui, is now the bolder of no less thau four championships—viz., North Island, Hawke's Bay, Wairarapa, and North Wairarapa.

The success that attended the eighteenth annual sriorts meeting of the East Coast Sports Olub at Holmwood yesterday, must be gratifying alike to the promoters and all in the vicinity, who are interested. Glorious weather conditions and an exceptionally large attendance combined to make the meeting oue of the most enjoyable yet held. Thanks to Mr E. Lenuie detail arrangements wero well in band and credit is largely due to him for the success of the meeting. An energetic committee, too, contributed materially to the success of the gathering, while the catering, in charge of a strong ladies' committee, met with general appreciation. Details have not yet come to hand, but a full report will be published later.

A meeting of the local bakers was held yesterday, wheu the questiou ot! the price of bread was discussed a some length. .

The quarterly summoned meeting of Court Loyal Enterprise, A.0.F., will be held this evening, when officers will be elected for the ensuing term.

The Masterton Methodist Sunday School aumial picnic will be held ou New V"ear's Day at Mr Macara'sfarni, Akura. Vehicles will leave the school at nine o'clock.

One evidence of local prosperity is to be found iv the unusual number of Welliugtou people who are this year seeing the sights of New Zealaud, says the Times. It is, of course, the fact that the people of most countries see less of their own land thau do visitors. Messrs Cook and Sou, however, report that they have lately beeu exceedingly busy booking Welliugtou people for the Wauganui River aud Rotorua trips. Herbert John Pullenger, labourer, aged about 30, single, was drowned iv a poud sixteeu iuches deep at Normauby yesterday morning. The deceased is supposed to have fallen into the water while suffering from au epileptic fit, to which he was subject. —Association.
