The Christmas boxiug-match in tne House has been absurd. Doubtless the Opposition was right iv blocking the £-100 grant to Mr Reeves, but it has elected to strain at a gnat aud to swallow a camel. A camel in the shap9 of a million of money could have beeu challenged in the estimates. To let this camel go and to make a stand on a paltry £400 gnat has been unwise. Doubtless it cost the country £400 a day or more, to keep Parliament in sessou. It is dangerous for eveu an Opposition to acquire a reputation for being great in little things. Its outlook wants broadening. There is doubtless something behind this wretched £400 which no one knows anything about. If the Opposition could unearth the mystery there might be some advautage in battling over it, but it is quite evident that it has not succeeded iv doing this.
