SIR EDMUND MONSON

The death is announced of Sir Edmund Mousou, late British Ambassador at Paris.
The Right Hou. Sir Edmnud John Mousou, P. 0., G. 0.8., G.G.M.G., G.N.0., D.O.L, LL.D., M.A., was boru on October Gch, 1834, the sou of the sixth Baron Mouson. He was educated at Eton and Balliol College, Oxford (becoming Fellow of All Souls' in 1858), and entered the Diplomatic Service in 185G, when he was appointed Attache at Paris. Two years later he was sent to Florence, then back to Paris, and shortly afterwards to Washington, where he was private secretary to Lord Lyons. Here he remained "for rive years till iv ISG3 he was transferred as Attache to Hanover. In the same year lie was promoted to be third secietary and transferred to Brussels. He resigned in 18G5 and contested the Reigate seat in the House of (Jommons. The year 18(59 saw Sir Edmund again in harness, when he was appointed Consuliu the Azores, aud three years later became Consul-General for Hungary. After holding the positions of Minister to Uruguay (187!)), Argentine aud Paraguay (1884), Denmark (1884), Greece (1S88), aud Belgium (1892), he was appointed Ambassador to Austria in 181)3. In August, 189G, he was chosen to succeed the Marquis of Dufferiu as H. M. Ambassador at Paris, a post he retained until his retirement iv 11)0-4. Iv 1881 Sir Edmund married Eleanor, daughter of Major Munro, Consul-General at Monte Video, aud leaves three sous.
