"John Auanias Joues," replied the proud father of the kicking infant, who was about to be christened.
"I refuse to christen the child in the name of Ananias. Do you know who Ananias was?" protested the clergyman. "No, I dou't; au' I don't care who he was," replied the father. "But he was the greatest liar in Bible history!" said the shocked clergyman. "Never you mind," retorted the father," "my kid ain't no liar. I wants him named Auauias 'cos I likes the sound of it. "
"I won't do it said the clergyman, determinedly. "I will christen the child John He zekiah Joues!" Aud he did so, sprinkling water on the iufant's face with the utterance of each name.
"Au' I rubs out the middle splash," said the. father .lust as determined, as be first wiped the water off his offspring's nose with his coat sleeve, and afterwards sprinkled more on, 'an' I christens the k d John Ananias. So there!"
