CARS IN COLLISION
ACCIDENT IN TINAKORI-KOAD
Two tramcars weir in collision in Tiuakori-road ou Suuday afternoon, and as a result a number of passengers sustained minor injuries, while iv at least one case more serious results were suffered. According Post, the cars were coming from Karon to the city, and they stopped to pick up passeugers at the" Botanical Gardens, where a baud concert had been given. Tliev were speedily rilled to their full capacity. Cay (~ driven by Motormau C .egg, moved off first, aud ran ou to a loop Hue a little further down the road, where it was pulled up to allow au upcoming car to pass it. Then it moved on, with the second car (No. -57, driven by Motormau Mills') some forty yards" behind it. At Georgestreet stopping place, near Tiuakoriroad. Gi._rg's car was stopped to allow some passengers to alight, aud here the accident Happened, for Mills' car came along at fast speed—it is alleged that the brakes failed to act properly, owing to the skidding of the wheels of the car ou the tramline—aud ran into Gregg's car. Mills sounded his alarm gong when he realised that a collision was unavoidable, and Gregg then started his car, but the speed he got ou before Mills' car overtook him was insufficient to lessen the impact materially, and the passeugers sustained shocks aud iujuries as result of their being thrown together from the cross seats" with which these cars are fitted up. There followed a scene of excitement, and several passengers received minor injuries through jumping on to the road from the car, which had beeu given au impetus by the collision. The car windows were broken, and the. flying glass caused further injuries to "some of the passengers. A two-year-old child named Nyeberg was badly injured through another passenger" beiug thrown bodily on to him, and he was taken to his home in Tanmaki-street suffering from concussion of the brain. Dr Henry was summoned to the scene of the accident, but, fortunately, he found that there were no serious injuries beyond that already recorded.
