A LAUDABLE
PROTECTION OF INFANT LIFE

W E LLINGTON, Last Night
There was a large gathering of ladies aud others, iucludiug the Hon. G. Fowlds (Minister of Public Health), Dr Mason (Chief Health Officer), the Hou. Dr Collius, M.L.C., aud other representatives of the medical profession, at the Town Hall this afternoon. The gathering was held under the auspices of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children, and was held to further the movement inaugurated by Dr Truby King for the protection of iufant life.
It was decided to call the nurses employed by the Wellliugton Society, "Lady Pluukett Nurses," in honour of Her Excellency Lady Pluuket, who is taking such a keeu interest aud au active part in furthering the objects of the Society. .
Lady Pluuket addressed the meeting, urging the need for improved feeding of infants aud better attention to mothers aud prospective mothers.
Drs Masou, Collius aud Young, aud Hou. G. Fowlds also delivered addresses. The doctors pointed out that a large proportion of iufautile mortality which was preventable was due.to improper feeding and ignorance generally ou the part of mothers. The need for a purer milk supply was emphasised by most of the speakers.
