DROUGHT IN MANAWATU.
Great Scarcity of Feed.
(By Telegraph—Press Association), Palmerston N., This Day.
The present is the driest season experienced in Manawatu for many years past. Feed all over the country is parched and burnt up and in many instances farmers are carting water for their stock. The milk supply to factories has fallen from twenty to to forty-five per cont. below the supply this time last year. The daily output of butter from the factory here has fallen from 8000 or OOOOlbs daily to between 6000 and 70001bs, and there is every indication that it will fall much lower. The milk yield is decreasing every day. Winter feed has not yet been trenched upon, but it will be necessary before long unless steady and continuous rain falls.
