INSURANCE COMPETITION.

A Haul for the State Department.

IBj) Telegraph — Pvcss Association). Ciiristchurch, Last Night,

At the. Hospital Board to-day there was some interesting correspondence with regard to Stale fire insurance. The Secretary of the.Board had attempted to place a small line with the State, but the other companies had at once objected that they could not act with the State, whereupon the Secretary at once called in the whole of the policies and placed the whole line of insurance, amounting to £9000, with the State Department. This policy of "taking the bull by the horns " is understood to have caused dismay in the camp of the proprietary companies.
